Were so excited that our little Grace Kathryn finally decided to make an appearance, and on her due date of all times (well kind of!) My water broke on Saturday June 5th, 2010 around 8:30 in the morning. It was such a small amount of water; we didn’t exactly know that was what had happened. We waited and waited for more to happen. It never did so around 1:00 we called the hospital and decided to go in and have it checked out. We both fully expected to be sent home later that day. As it turns out that was our last time at home without a baby girl!
When we got to the hospital, we were admitted, given a room and started some patoson to help get things going around 6:00. We felt pretty good, up walking around and watching movies/playing games etc until around 10:30 when my contractions got somewhat bad. I finally got an epidural around 3:00 in the morning, knowing we had a long road ahead of us! Nate says I asked about 18 different people if it was going to wear off. To which they all said no, and it somewhat did!
Contractions were coming pretty regularly about every 2 to 3 minutes, and I was finally fully dilated about 9:30am on Sunday morning. They had us push till about noon and then decided I was only about 9.5 cm dilated, and her head was facing sideways (looking at my hip) so I should stop pushing and let the petocian do some more work. Nathan and I were very afraid that I would have to have and emergency c-section. As it turns out they had me start pushing again at 1:30 and she finally decided to give up and move her head around 4:00. She Finally came out at 4:28 pm on Sunday, June 6th , 2010. She weighed 7lbs, 4 oz and was 19.5 in long.
When she came out it was kind of scary. Nathan realized what was going on more than I did, because as I was pushing her out her heart rate dropped on the monitor from 134 to 60. When she was born, her cord was wrapped around her neck and she had meconium coming out of her nose. They very quickly cut her cord, called the NICU people and took her to work on her. It felt like hours before we heard her cry! When she finally did it was the best sound in the world! Everything was fine and she was able to stay with mom and dad for the rest of our hospital stay.
Here is her first picture ever with the best doctor in the world!
